Walkers World Cup Crisps Taste Test: Mexican Beef Taco Wins
Walkers World Cup Crisps Taste Test: Mexican Flavour Wins

Walkers has launched a new range of crisps inspired by the 2026 World Cup, featuring four country-themed flavours: England (bangers and mash), Mexico (beef taco), Portugal (chorizo and onion), and Spain (queso). A taste test by Shania King-Soyza for Brit Brief ranked the Doritos Mexican Beef Taco as the clear winner, scoring 9 out of 10.

Portuguese Chorizo & Onion: 5/10

The Walkers Max Portuguese crisps, described as having a chorizo and onion flavour with a deep-ridged texture, were the least favourite. The initial taste was bland, lacking the expected smoky, spicy kick. One Tesco customer commented: "I couldn't taste any of the flavour... these crisps overpromised and underdelivered." However, a friend noted that "the more you eat, the nicer they get." Prices for the Portuguese crisps are £2.50 per bag.

English Bangers & Mash: 6/10

The English flavour, designed to evoke bangers and mash, was described as decent but unremarkable. The flat, circular crisps tasted similar to standard roast chicken crisps, with a hint of herby Bisto gravy but no distinct sausage or mash flavour. One Tesco shopper remarked: "As a standard Walkers crisp, they're great, but regarding a new flavour, they are just a typical chicken flavour." A pack of five costs £2.15 at Tesco, or £1.90 for a 150g bag.

Spanish Queso: 7/10

The Spanish-inspired queso flavour, with a ridged texture, proved divisive. The reviewer enjoyed the cheesy punch, reminiscent of classic 'just cheese' crisps, but her mother described the taste as "like vomit." A Tesco reviewer noted: "I love strong flavoured crisps, but I found the taste horrible... like sweaty socks." Another praised: "Really cheesy flavour! For once, you can close your eyes and definitely know what flavour you are eating." The Spanish crisps are priced at £2.15 for a pack of five.

Doritos Mexican Beef Taco: 9/10

The Doritos Mexican Beef Taco flavour was the undisputed winner. According to a Doritos spokesperson: "At Doritos, we believe no one should settle for boring crisps and snacks. When it comes to bold snacking experiences, we're where it's at." The crisps deliver a potent aroma and taste that closely replicates a beef taco, with meaty flavours and taco seasoning, though not overly spicy. One Tesco customer gave five stars, saying: "Really enjoyed these and very happy to learn they are going to be a permanent addition after the World Cup." The Mexican crisps are priced at £2.50 per bag.
