Fans of BBC's The Apprentice have called for contestant Pascha Myhill to be 'fired instantly' after she mistakenly described the iconic London landmark Cutty Sark as sounding 'Japanese or something'. The gaffe occurred during Thursday's episode as the 10 remaining candidates prepared to meet Lord Sugar at the famous ship in Greenwich.
While getting ready for the 6am wake-up call, Myhill said: 'What is Cutty Sark? It's a weird name, it sounds, Japanese or something.' The Cutty Sark is a historic British tea clipper, built in 1869 and now a major tourist attraction in London.
Viewers took to X to express their disbelief. One wrote: 'Not heard of the Cutty Sark and having trouble with the Iguanadons. Poor start.' Another said: 'OMG are these people for real? I've known the Cutty Sark since I was in primary school.' A third added: 'Not knowing what the Cutty Sark is should be an instant firing.'
The episode saw the candidates repeat a scavenger hunt challenge on the Isle of Wight, after failing a similar task in Hong Kong earlier in the series. Kieran McCartney's team lost, leading to Harry Clough becoming the eleventh candidate to be fired. Lord Sugar cited the high cost of a stand-up paddle board purchased by Clough as the reason for his dismissal.
Speaking after his firing, Clough said: 'It was extraordinary... I kind of felt it coming because I was in the boardroom with Kieran and Conor, who are the biggest characters on the show. But then I was just really sad.' He defended his decision to buy the paddle board, calling it 'the right decision' at the time.
