A new food trend dubbed 'boy kibble' is gaining traction among health-conscious Gen Z men on social media. The term describes a simple meal typically consisting of ground beef, rice, and sometimes a vegetable or fat, praised by gym enthusiasts as an easy and affordable way to get carbs and protein for workout gains.

Nutrition experts note that while the name is new, the concept is not. Registered dietitian Jim White explains that it is essentially old-school bodybuilding nutrition repackaged with extreme simplicity. The meal can be nutritious when balanced with protein, fat, carbohydrates, and fibre, supporting basic health and training demands.

However, experts warn against over-reliance on the oversimplified version of beef and rice, which may lack fibre and micronutrient diversity. Dietitian Scott Keatley advises limiting it to once a day, with other meals providing a wider range of nutrients. Abbey Sharp also cautions that eating the same meal daily could be a red flag for disordered eating, especially for those with a history of such issues.
