A new poll has crowned Guns N' Roses' 1989 hit 'Sweet Child O' Mine' as the song with the greatest guitar riff of all time. The survey, conducted by Muse Group among 1,500 fans, saw the iconic riff take the top spot with 37 per cent of the vote.
Survivor's 'Eye Of The Tiger' came second, followed by Queen's 'Another One Bites The Dust' in third place. The top ten also included Kings Of Leon's 'Sex On Fire' at number four, ahead of Led Zeppelin's 'Stairway To Heaven' and Michael Jackson's 'Beat It'. Nirvana's 'Smells Like Teen Spirit', Lynyrd Skynyrd's 'Sweet Home Alabama', Eric Clapton's 'Layla' and Dire Straits' 'Money For Nothing' completed the list.
The poll revealed that 96 per cent of people can appreciate a good guitar riff even if they are not die-hard rock fans. Additionally, 76 per cent of respondents said they wish they could play the guitar when they hear a favourite anthem, while 39 per cent admitted to playing air guitar to celebrate a favourite riff.
The survey also found that 48 per cent of those who regularly play or compose music felt it kept their brain lively, and 69 per cent said practising until perfect was a great morale boost. Furthermore, 92 per cent of parents polled would like their children to learn an instrument or music production.
