Westlife have confirmed that Mark Feehily remains 'very much part of the band' despite his absence from their upcoming 25th anniversary tour. The singer will not perform at the Royal Albert Hall gigs or the subsequent world tour due to ongoing health issues.
Shane Filan, Nicky Byrne and Kian Egan appeared on The One Show to discuss the tour. When host JB Gill asked about Feehily's future in the band, Filan said: 'He's very much part of the band. Unfortunately he's unable to join us for the tour but we love Mark to bits. We can't wait to have him back.'
Kian Egan added that Feehily has contributed vocals to new music, saying: 'He's on the new music as well. There's some songs on there and the vocals are incredible.'
Feehily, 45, developed sepsis in 2020 following surgery, and was later diagnosed with pneumonia. He also developed an incisional hernia requiring further surgery. Last year he announced a temporary break from the band ahead of their first US tour.
Westlife's statement earlier this month said: 'Sadly, Mark will be unable to join the celebrations. We hope he can join us back on stage when he is ready and able.' The band will proceed as a trio for the anniversary shows.
