Lauryn Hill Surprises The Weeknd on The Tonight Show After Grammy No-Show

Lauryn Hill made a surprise appearance on NBC's The Tonight Show on Friday, joining The Weeknd for a duet of his song 'In The Night'. The performance came just four days after she failed to appear alongside him at the Grammy Awards.

The former Fugees singer, who won five Grammys in 1999 for her album 'The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill', has had an erratic career since. She pleaded guilty to tax evasion in 2012 and served a three-month prison sentence in 2013.

After the Tonight Show performance, The Weeknd tweeted that the duet was the 'most important experience of my life'. Hill had been invited to perform with him at the Grammys but left after a dress rehearsal and did not return, according to Recording Academy President Neil Portnow.

Portnow said Hill was invited by The Weeknd to join him on 'In The Night' and was supposed to appear during the second verse. Her representative later claimed the Grammy performance was announced prematurely and 'without approval'.
