A former contestant on ITV's The Chase has lifted the lid on what happens behind the scenes, including details about host Bradley Walsh and the show's production process. Rachel Warwick, who appeared on the programme on 5 October, shared her experiences in a TikTok Q&A, revealing that she filmed the episode nearly two years earlier.
Warwick praised Bradley Walsh, describing him as 'lovely' and 'just as nice as on TV'. She noted that contestants do not learn which Chaser they will face until the moment they appear, and that even Walsh is unaware of the identity until then. 'All the reactions are genuine,' she said.
The contestant also explained the wardrobe process: contestants bring five outfits, and the costume department selects the best one to avoid colour clashes. Regarding hair and makeup, Warwick said contestants arrive with their own styling, which is later touched up by the show's team.
Warwick detailed the timeline from application to broadcast: she applied in September 2018, auditioned in October, filmed in December, and the episode aired in October 2020. She also clarified that there is no studio audience; only the four contestants, Bradley, the Chaser, and the crew are present.
When asked about the 'after the break' segments, Warwick confirmed that filming pauses for about ten seconds before continuing. She also revealed that Chaser Paul Sinha sympathised with her difficult questions after she was caught, but his comments were cut from the final edit.
