A royal author has made a startling claim about Princess Eugenie's 2018 wedding, alleging that her husband Jack Brooksbank was left alarmed by a specific demand from Prince Andrew.
The Alleged Wedding Incident
According to royal biographer Hugo Vickers in his book Queen Elizabeth II A Personal History, Prince Andrew "persuaded" a company to film the wedding after major networks declined coverage. However, the groom was reportedly "alarmed" that Andrew "insisted" on a procession through Windsor.
Vickers wrote: "On 12 October 2018 Princess Eugenie married Jack Brooksbank in St George's Chapel. This was a happier wedding. It did not attract as much publicity, and the Duke of York was annoyed that it would not be filmed for the major networks, though he persuaded a company to record it. The groom was alarmed that Prince Andrew insisted on a procession through Windsor, afraid that no one would be there to cheer them. But Windsor loves a procession and there was a good crowd."
Broader Royal Family Context
This revelation emerges amid significant questions about the future roles of Princess Eugenie and her sister Princess Beatrice within the Royal Family. The speculation has intensified due to the ongoing fallout from Prince Andrew's association with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, though Andrew has consistently denied any wrongdoing.
As Eugenie turned 36 earlier this year, royal journalist Matt Wilkinson expressed hope that both sisters might find meaningful roles. He stated: "I've got sympathy for both Beatrice and Eugenie, and I'd like to see them somehow rehabilitated and used properly in the Royal Family. I think the King wants her, wants them both, to not pay for the sins of their parents, but I'm not sure there is mass public sympathy for them at the moment."
Personal Support Structures
Wilkinson noted that both princesses are experiencing what he described as a "complete and utter personal crisis," but emphasized their strong support networks. He added: "I think there are enough support structures around them and enough money. Their husbands are both very supportive and rich, so I think they'll be able to cope."
Recently, Eugenie maintained a low profile during her birthday celebrations while skiing with family in Switzerland. The publisher ReachPlc has reportedly approached Jack Brooksbank for comment regarding these wedding allegations, though no response has been publicly disclosed at this time.
