The wedding was one of the most watched global events of the decade. New claims have emerged about an alleged confrontation between Prince Harry and his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, in the months leading up to his high-profile wedding to Meghan Markle in 2018.
According to accounts from royal insiders, a ten-minute-long confrontation took place between Harry and his grandmother. While the public saw a fairy-tale celebration at Windsor Castle, reports suggest that disagreements over wedding arrangements created friction between the Duke of Sussex and senior members of the Royal Family.
Sources have claimed that the late Queen became increasingly concerned about decisions being made during the planning process without the level of consultation she had expected. Among the issues reportedly causing frustration was Harry's decision to approach the Archbishop of Canterbury about the wedding ceremony before seeking the Dean of Windsor's approval.
According to recollections shared by Lady Elizabeth Anson, the Queen's first cousin, Harry allegedly engaged in what has been described as a "10-minute meltdown" during a conversation with the monarch around three months before the wedding, Sky News Australia reports.
Lady Elizabeth reportedly told royal author Sally Bedell Smith that the Queen was deeply saddened by the exchange. Lady Elizabeth Anson revealed to Sally Bedell Smith: "She said she was really upset. I was shocked when the Queen told me this, how she was so saddened. I had no idea about the conversation, that he was rude to her for ten minutes."
Additional reports indicate that the Queen was also disappointed by difficulties with communication regarding wedding details, including aspects of Meghan Markle's bridal gown and other arrangements.
The wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle was held on May 19, 2018, in St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle. Around 600 guests attended the ceremony, while millions worldwide watched on television and online. One of the most memorable moments of the ceremony was when Most Reverend Michael Curry delivered his 14-minute sermon on the power of love. Celebrities in attendance included Oprah Winfrey, George Clooney, Amal Clooney, Serena Williams, and Elton John.
Harry received special permission from the Queen to keep his beard while wearing the Blues and Royals' frock coat uniform. Meghan wore a minimalist, elegant silk gown featuring a graphic bateau neckline, designed by British designer Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy.
