3 BBC Crime Series Perfect for Death in Paradise Fans
3 BBC Crime Series for Death in Paradise Fans

Death in Paradise may not be airing right now, but there are several other BBC crime series to fill the gap. The latest series of the sun-soaked drama starring Don Gilet and Don Warrington ended earlier this year, with new episodes still months off. Fans also face a wait for the next run of its popular spin-off Beyond Paradise.

However, luckily for fans of the crime drama genre, the BBC iPlayer is currently streaming a few other shows packed full of mysteries and twists to get stuck into. We have a look at three of the shows perfect to binge right now.

A Good Girl's Guide to Murder

A Good Girl's Guide to Murder returned for a second series earlier this year after making its debut in 2024 with series one, based on the novel by Holly Jackson. It sees the return of Pip (Emma Myers), whose world has been transformed after she solved the Andie Bell case. She is not interested in getting involved in another mystery and just wants to fix the fallout from what happened.

"But as Max Hastings’ trial approaches, Connor’s brother Jamie suddenly disappears, and Pip finds herself in a race against time to find him," said a synopsis. "This new mystery takes Pip to unexpected places as she struggles with the idea of justice, straying even further from the 'good girl' she once was." The series was a hit, with one fan writing on review site Rotten Tomatoes: "Gripping, emotional, and hard to stop watching."

The Cage

Starring Sheridan Smith and Michael Socha, The Cage is a "high-stakes, high energy crime story" set within the world of a Liverpool casino. Sheridan plays Leanne, who is robbing from the safe in the inner city casino she works at. It turns out that another staff member, Matty, played by Michael, is also swiping some of the casino's takings, and "their lives are set on a collision course; with each other, the local gangster they're stealing from, and the police".

Fans posted messages on X admitting they were "obsessed" when it aired, calling it "incredible" and "phenomenal". "Sheridan Smith is as excellent as ever," said someone else on the platform, which was formerly known as Twitter.

Death Valley

The second series of crime mystery Death Valley is also available to watch on the platform. The Wales-set show follows eccentric retired actor John Chapel (Timothy Spall) and Detective Sergeant Janie Mallowan (Gwyneth Keyworth) as the unlikely duo set about solving crimes together.

The latest series sees John return to acting, while Janie is busier than ever after a promotion and on the outs with John, until a murder brings them back together. A synopsis teased: "Will this foray into his old thespian passion ignite something once forgotten in John? One thing is certain, whether investigating a murder in a coastal fishing village, a sustainable commune or the competitive world of rugby, John and Janie will continue to bring justice to the mid-Wales region."

The show has been a hit with viewers, with many posting messages on social media calling it "brilliant", "excellent" and "wonderful". "It's been the best series I have seen in a while," one person posted on X.

A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, The Cage and Death Valley are available on BBC iPlayer.
