Anna Kendrick is set to direct an adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid's bestselling novel The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo for Netflix, sources confirm. The project marks Kendrick's second directorial effort following her debut Woman of the Hour, which was also produced by Netflix.
The film follows a young journalist interviewing ageing Hollywood starlet Evelyn Hugo, who recounts her seven marriages and reveals scandals and secrets from her life. Liz Tigelaar wrote the first draft of the script, with revisions by Francesca Sloane. Liza Chasin, Brad Mendelsohn, and David Hinojosa are producing.
Reid's novel has sold over 24 million copies worldwide and has generated 759 million views on TikTok. Her previous work Daisy Jones & The Six was adapted into a limited series by Prime Video and Hello Sunshine.
Netflix secured the rights to The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo in 2022 and has prioritised the project. Kendrick, who also stars in the upcoming A24 film Misty Green, is represented by Range Media Partners, CAA, and attorney Todd Rubenstein.
