Bridgerton season four will introduce an entirely new location, set to leave fans under the collar. The long-awaited season focuses on second eldest brother Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) and his love interest Sophie (Yerin Ha).
Fans of Julia Quinn's book series will recognise My Cottage, Benedict's country estate, which hasn't yet featured in the show. Thompson teased to Tudum: “It’s one of those sequences in the novel that I feel is so closely followed and replicated in the series.”
The stars spent two weeks filming crucial scenes at Loseley Park in England, with just the characters' housekeepers Mr and Mrs Crabtree (Billy Boyle and Susan Brown). Thompson added: “It was magical, and [Yerin and I] were just getting to know each other as actors as well as the characters.”
The trailer has already teased a romantic getaway as Sophie tries to look away from Benedict emerging from a lake. Thompson joked “the lake was freezing” while Ha said “the result of [the scene] is steamy.” Showrunner Jess Brownell shared: “I hope people are feeling a little sweaty, like they might need to go for a swim and cool down.”
Executive producer Tom Verica stressed the importance of the cottage, allowing Benedict and Sophie to be alone. “That’s the thing, when you get down to just two people without all the pomp and circumstance of being distracted by the ton and everything, [it’s about] how they’re coping, dealing with one another, and having to navigate that spark they have.”
Benedict remains unwilling to settle down until he meets a mysterious woman at his mother's masquerade ball, known only as the Lady in Silver. Little does he know her real identity is Sophie, a resourceful maid with secrets. Bridgerton season four premieres on Thursday, January 29, on Netflix.
