Call The Midwife filming begins for 15th series amid future uncertainty

Filming for the next series of Call the Midwife is reportedly underway, easing fears among fans that the beloved BBC period drama might be shelved. According to The Sun, production for the 15th series has officially begun, with a Christmas special and a full series expected later this year.

Fan favourites including Linda Bassett, Cliff Parisi, Georgie Glen, and Stephen McGann are set to return. An insider told the paper: 'Pre-production is already in full swing and scripts are being finalised. The cast will all reunite from next month to shoot their scenes for the new series as well as Christmas special.'

The update comes after show creator Heidi Thomas hinted at a possible pause in favour of a spin-off. She previously stated: 'I don't believe Call the Midwife will ever end. But I do think we might take a break at some point.' Thomas also noted ongoing discussions about an end point and opportunities to expand the storytelling world.
