Sarah Platt revealed as Theo Silverton's killer
Coronation Street has finally unveiled the identity of Theo Silverton's killer: Sarah Platt, played by Tina O'Brien. In a flashback, Sarah hit Theo with a metal pipe after he threatened her, referencing the son she lost with Todd Grimshaw. She then called Gary Windass for help, not her police officer boyfriend Kit Green, leading to a cover-up.
Tina O'Brien on the shock reveal
Tina O'Brien said she was 'really shocked' by the twist but understood Sarah's actions. 'In that moment, she didn't feel like she had any other choice,' she explained. The actress noted that Sarah acted in self-preservation, feeling trapped and threatened by Theo.
Cover-up and guilt
Sarah and Gary hid the truth, with Gary instructing Sarah to wash her hands and establish an alibi. Sarah later got assaulted by Jodie Ramsey, which provided cover. O'Brien said Sarah feels 'constant guilt' over lying to Kit and Todd, and for Summer Spellman's wrongful imprisonment. 'She knows she crossed a line that she can't come back from,' O'Brien added.
Potential exit for Sarah Platt
O'Brien hinted that Sarah could face prison, saying, 'Absolutely, she could be going to prison.' She added, 'It's not a job for life. I was really excited to be given the honour of being the murderer.' The actress emphasized that Sarah's actions were not premeditated but self-defence, though the cover-up complicates her case.
Behind the scenes of the murder scene
O'Brien enjoyed filming the stunt scenes on scaffolding during night shoots. 'James [Cartwright] was such a lovely guy to work with, but it was intimidating and scary,' she said. 'It felt really good to be the one delivering that final push.'
What's next for Sarah?
Sarah is determined to keep her secret to protect her family, especially her son. O'Brien noted that Sarah's guilt and fear of losing her family drive her to do whatever it takes. The storyline continues to unfold, with Kit growing suspicious and Todd unaware of the truth.
