Devoted Coronation Street fans have been left scratching their heads this week, asking a collective 'why now?' after a mysterious new character was revealed to be a long-lost sibling of fan favourite Shona Platt.
A Mysterious Arrival Post-Corriedale
The world's longest-running TV soap returned to its regular schedule on Friday, 9th January 2026, still reeling from the historic crossover event with Emmerdale, dubbed 'Corriedale', which aired earlier in the week. During that special episode, a woman known only as Jodie, played by Olivia Frances Brown, was seen bound in the back of a van before later stalking the corridors of Weatherfield General.
This coincided with a tense time for Shona, portrayed by Julia Goulding, who was undergoing a risky operation ahead of the birth of her daughter, Harper. The baby had developed a tumour in the womb. Observant viewers noted Jodie's striking resemblance to Shona, a suspicion confirmed when Jodie referred to herself as a "proud aunty" to a man in the hospital.

The truth came out in emotional scenes broadcast on Friday. As Shona recovered in her hospital bed with husband David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd) by her side, Jodie walked into the room.
