Betsy Swain actress Sydney Martin has teased that the current Coronation Street storyline involving her mother Becky Swain's return from the dead may not unfold as viewers anticipate. Martin described upcoming scenes as 'juicy' and hinted at a 'twist' that could surprise fans.
Becky Swain, played by Amy Cudden, made a shock return to the cobbles weeks ago, four years after her apparent death. She claimed to have been hiding in Spain to protect her family, but her reappearance has caused tension for her former partner Lisa Swain and Lisa's fiancée Carla Connor.
Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, Martin revealed her initial scepticism about the plot but praised the meticulous casting process. 'I was like… as a ghost? And they were like no, like for real. I was like, okay! Wow! I was sceptical but it’s been in good hands,' she said.
Martin added: 'I think the story is really interesting, it's juicy. I don't think it's going to follow the path people necessarily think it will.' When asked for a word to describe upcoming episodes, she simply replied: 'I'm gonna go with twist.'
Co-stars Ryan Mulvey and Cait Fitton also hinted at more surprises ahead, with Fitton noting, 'It's Corrie, ain't it.' Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
