Coronation Street's Bethany Platt will stab her mother's boyfriend Gary Windass in dramatic upcoming scenes. The troubled 16-year-old, played by Lucy Fallon, attacks him after being forbidden from leaving the house to attend a party hosted by her abusive older boyfriend Nathan.
Actress Tina O'Brien, who plays mother Sarah, revealed to Radio Times that Bethany passes out drunk on the sofa after overindulging. When she wakes up and panics, realising she is at home without her phone, she tries to flee but Gary blocks her way. She then throws objects and stabs him in the arm.
Bethany is currently being groomed by Nathan Curtis, played by Christopher Harper, who has allowed his friends to sexually abuse her. In a harrowing storyline, she has been raped by an officer and her pleas for help ignored by police.
In scenes set to air this week, Nathan forces Bethany to wear a sexy outfit for one of his parties, where he plans to have his friend Ian abuse her. After drinking heavily, she collapses and is brought home by Sarah and Gary. When she wakes, she flies into a rage upon finding herself locked in.
Sarah is shocked to find her daughter in scanty clothing and drunk, unaware of the full truth. A further twist will reveal that one of Bethany's abusers is a policeman, who threatens her family, saying: 'You're not even safe in a police station.' An insider said Bethany is terrified and forced into a darker place, with things set to worsen before they improve.
