Coronation Street's Newcomer Jodie Reveals Sinister Plan Against Sister Shona
Coronation Street actress Olivia Frances Brown has unveiled disturbing details about her character Jodie's motivations, confirming the troubled newcomer intends to systematically remove her sister Shona Platt from the picture. In exclusive revelations about upcoming plotlines, Brown detailed Jodie's calculated scheme to essentially steal Shona's life, driven by decades of simmering resentment.
Abandonment Issues Fuel Dangerous Ambitions
According to Brown, who joined the ITV soap as Shona's long-lost sister, Jodie's actions stem directly from childhood trauma. "She has deep-rooted abandonment issues," the actress explained. "I'd say she's a product of what people have put her through. Total resentment defines her relationship with Shona."
The core of Jodie's grievance lies in Shona leaving the family home during their teenage years without taking Jodie with her. Brown elaborated: "Jodie feels Shona abandoned her and broke a promise to take her to a better life. Seeing Shona now with the house, the husband, and the family - everything Jodie ever dreamt of - is profoundly difficult for her. She blames Shona entirely for the fact that she doesn't have those things herself."
Methodical Manipulation Unfolds on the Cobbles
Brown confirmed Jodie's explicit intention to "put Shona out of the picture, even if just for a few hours, so she can step into her shoes." This sinister plan involves calculated moments of manipulation, including one scene where Jodie watches a film with David Platt while Shona sleeps nearby.
"She wants to feel that closeness and validation that Shona gets every day," Brown revealed about this unsettling scenario. The actress described Jodie as "definitely troubled and traumatised by her past" but emphasized that "she isn't a bad person" in the traditional sense. Instead, Jodie "likes to mess around and toy with people to amuse herself, but only the ones she thinks deserve it."
Mysterious Elements Add to Suspense
Further complicating the storyline is a mysterious locket that Jodie possesses, which Brown hinted has greater significance than initially revealed. "I don't want to say too much," the actress teased, "but Jodie claims she found it in a charity shop, but that's a lie to protect herself." This enigmatic detail suggests additional layers to Jodie's backstory that may emerge as the plot develops.
Actress Embraces Corrie's Family Atmosphere
Despite playing such a complex character, Brown expressed genuine affection for her experience on the long-running soap. "It's great - everybody is so lovely, like a big family," she shared. "People have welcomed me so well and made me feel like I've been here forever. It's a really, really nice place to work."
The actress admitted that debuting during the recent Corriedale crossover event was particularly challenging. "It was strange and definitely unique," Brown recalled. "I was the mystery character and had to keep my lips sealed! It was a bit of a whirlwind because I was working with teams from both Emmerdale and Corrie, so I didn't really get a feel for the actual building here for a while."
Coronation Street continues to air weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with Jodie's disturbing plot against Shona expected to unfold in coming episodes.
