After convincing Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) to forgive Rocky Cotton (Brian Conley) for his secret marriage, Reiss was seen making a clandestine phone call – to his own wife.
Rocky had revealed he married 25 years ago and never divorced, keeping it from fiancée Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth). Sonia was horrified, but Reiss urged her to be understanding. ‘He essentially points out that people make mistakes,’ Freeman said. ‘He stands up for Rocky in this situation.’
Reiss argued that if Kathy is happy and the deception is old, it may not be worth destroying a loving relationship. However, his motives became clear when he slipped away to call his wife, exposing his own secret.
