Emmerdale actress Laura Norton has spoken out about her character Kerry Wyatt's surprise wedding to Eric Pollard, which aired on Wednesday. The unexpected twist saw the pair tie the knot, leaving Jacob Gallagher horrified as he uncovered the truth while preparing for his own secret wedding with Sarah Sugden.
Norton explained that the marriage was a means of protecting Jacob's inheritance amid Eric's financial concerns. She described Kerry as a 'loveable rogue' who genuinely cares for Eric, adding: 'I think this is some sort of misplaced guilt... they looked after my daughter and I know that my daughter would want me to do this for you.'
Despite the wedding, Norton hinted that Kerry's recent romance with Jai Sharma may not be over. She noted that fans have responded positively to the pairing, saying: 'She brings out a nice side of Jai... a softer side.' However, she suggested that for now, the relationship would not progress further.
Norton described filming the wedding scenes as 'the most fun I had filming in ages,' praising the comedic dynamic between Kerry and Eric. Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
