Former Coronation Street actor Dominic Holmes is barely recognisable in his latest role, 19 years after leaving the famous cobbles. The actor, who portrayed Daniel Osbourne in the ITV soap for two years before departing in 2007, has undergone a remarkable transformation.
From Soap Star to Drag Queen DJ
Dominic Holmes now stars in Channel 4's fresh drama, Tip Toe, where he plays Regime, a daytime teacher and nocturnal drag queen DJ at Spit and Polish. The character's dual life leads to trouble as the five-part series unfolds.
The character of Daniel Osbourne returned to Weatherfield in 2016, now played by Rob Mallard, who continues in the role today. Holmes' departure from the soap 19 years ago marked the end of his stint on the iconic show.
Tip Toe: A Tense Suburban Thriller
Tip Toe, which premiered at the end of May, stars Alan Cumming and David Morrissey as feuding Manchester neighbours Leo and Clive. After living side by side for nearly 15 years, events suddenly spiral out of control. The show's synopsis reads: 'Just as life should be settling down, the world around them is growing more tense. Words become weapons, opinions become radicalised, and gradually, two neighbours become deadly enemies in a tense, suburban thriller which challenges everything we consider to be safe.'
Alan Cumming revealed he committed to the project before reading the script. He remarked: 'Russell (T Davies) had told me about it. What it made me feel was how it absolutely needs to be told because it's so prescient and it is so about now. Violence and hatred have become so normalised.' He continued: 'It has got completely out of control. For me, I just thought this is a brilliant story that needs to be heard because it contains a lesson for all of us.'
The series features a cast of vibrant characters and is underscored with Davies' trademark wit and humour. It is an urgent tale that brings a spotlight to bear on the prejudices creeping back into our lives. As of now, there has been no announcement regarding a second series. Tip Toe is available to watch on Channel 4.
