ITV's The Assembly Returns with Star-Studded Series Two Cast Announced
ITV's The Assembly Series Two Cast Revealed with Fry, Sturgeon

ITV has officially unveiled the impressive and star-studded cast list for the highly anticipated second series of its groundbreaking interview programme, The Assembly. The show, which garnered critical acclaim in its debut season, is set to return with a lineup that promises to captivate viewers across the nation.

Celebrity Guests Ready for No-Holds-Barred Questions

Taking on the unique challenge this year are a diverse group of high-profile figures. National treasure Sir Stephen Fry will feature prominently, alongside former Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and comedy legend Sir Lenny Henry. The roster also includes acclaimed actor Anna Maxwell Martin and BRIT award-winning rapper Aitch, known for his appearance on I'm A Celebrity.

An exciting twist awaits fans, as the sixth and final celebrity participant will be confirmed at a later date, adding an element of suspense. Additionally, an unseen special episode is planned, further expanding the series' scope and intrigue.

Inquisitive Interviewers Return with Unchanged Rules

Series two will see the return of the extraordinary panel of interviewers, who are autistic, neurodivergent, and/or learning disabled. These individuals bring their distinctive perspectives and unfiltered curiosity to the forefront, posing questions that traditional chat shows, press junkets, or even parliamentary grillings typically avoid.

The fundamental rules of the programme remain steadfast: no question is off limits, no topic is out of bounds, and nothing is held back. This commitment to raw, honest dialogue has been a hallmark of The Assembly's success, earning it praise for its innovative approach.

Extended Series and Leadership Insights

The new series has been extended to seven episodes, kicking off in April with Sir Stephen Fry and Nicola Sturgeon featured in the first two instalments. Katie Rawcliffe, director of entertainment of reality & daytime commissioning at ITV, expressed enthusiasm, stating, "This line-up really does offer something for everyone - The Assembly's no-holds-barred questions throw up all kinds of surprising revelations."

David Smyth, Entertainment Commissioning Editor at ITV, added, "The Assembly are raring to go, and with such a unique mix of famous faces to interview, they will have a ball coming up with their next set of questions. These celebrities really do need to be ready for anything."

Production Team Excitement and Critical Acclaim

Stu Richards of Rockerdale Studios shared his excitement, saying, "Buzzing to be back. We've got national treasures all over this series. And some fantastic celebrity guests, too." Michelle Singer, also from Rockerdale Studios, added, "We’re thrilled to be back and, better yet, back with such a fantastic group of celebrities getting the The Assembly treatment. Lots of surprises and laughter on the way, I guarantee."

Based on the French format Les Rencontres du Papotin, which has interviewed notable figures like President Emmanuel Macron, the British version's first season featured Danny Dyer, David Tennant, Jade Thirlwall, and Gary Lineker. It received widespread critical acclaim, with reviewers calling it "extraordinary," "a breath of fresh air," and "the most groundbreaking TV show of the year."

The Assembly series 1 remains available for streaming on ITVX and STV Player, allowing new audiences to experience the innovative programme that has set a new standard in television interviewing.
