Ryan Sampson, known for his role in 'Brassic', has been cast as Mr Collins in the upcoming BBC and BritBox series 'The Other Bennet Sister'. The 10-part adaptation of Janice Hadlow's novel explores the story of Mary Bennet, the overlooked middle sister from Jane Austen's 'Pride and Prejudice'.
The series also features Ruth Jones and Richard E. Grant as Mr and Mrs Bennet, with Indira Varma and Richard Coyle playing Mr and Mrs Gardiner. Ella Bruccoleri leads the cast as Mary Bennet. Filming is currently underway in Wales.
The Gardiners take Mary under their wing as a governess to their three children, introducing her to a new social world that includes characters such as Mr Hayward, Mr Ryder, and Ann Baxter. Laurie Davidson and Dónal Finn portray Mr Ryder and Mr Hayward respectively, while Varada Sethu plays Baxter.
Other cast members include Aaron Gill as John Sparrow, Poppy Gilbert as Lizzie, Molly Wright as Kitty, Grace Hogg-Robinson as Lydia, Tanya Reynolds as Caroline Bingley, Anna Fenton-Garvey as Charlotte Lucas, and Ryan Sampson as Mr Collins.
The series was greenlit by Lindsay Salt, director of BBC drama, and is produced by Bad Wolf. Executive producers include Kate Crowther, Becca Kinder, and Jane Tranter for Bad Wolf; Rebecca Ferguson for the BBC; and Jess O'Riordan, Robert Schildhouse, and Stephen Nye for BritBox. Sarah Quintrell adapted the novel for the screen.
'The Other Bennet Sister' will air on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in the UK, and on BritBox in the U.S. and Canada. Sony Pictures Television will handle international distribution.
