Gabby Thomas is set for a Christmas surprise in Emmerdale after hiring a handsome nanny, but Kim Tate is quick to issue a warning. Gabby and Dawn Taylor are competing for a top job in Kim's empire, which requires them to focus entirely on the task, leaving their children in the care of a nanny hired by Kim.
After the first candidate, Samantha, declines the position, the pair interview Nicky, a male nanny who impresses everyone, including Kim. Both women are keen to hire him, and the children take an instant liking to him. However, Kim senses Gabby's interest in Nicky and warns her that he is strictly off limits.
Gabby is put in her place with a short shrift from Kim, but the warning may only fuel Gabby's determination. The question remains whether Kim's challenge will backfire as Gabby might see it as an opportunity to defy her.
