Tarantino's Hateful Eight Gets Extended Netflix Miniseries Treatment

Quentin Tarantino's 2015 western The Hateful Eight has been re-released on Netflix as a four-part miniseries, sparking excitement among fans. The new version, titled The Hateful Eight: Extended Version, features a longer running time of 210 minutes compared to the original 167-minute cut available on the platform. However, much of the extra length comes from repeated opening and closing credits across the four episodes.

The original film had a unique rollout in 2015, including a 'roadshow' release in 70mm format at select theaters. That version ran 187 minutes, featuring an overture and entr'acte by Ennio Morricone. The new Netflix series adds about 43 minutes to the previous digital cut, but only around 20 minutes of that is new footage, including a scene with Demián Bichir's character plucking a chicken.

Each episode runs between 50 and 56 minutes, with credits adding approximately 27 minutes total. Netflix's auto-skip feature may bypass these credits unless disabled. The extended cut offers minor alternate takes and camera angles, but the core narrative remains unchanged.

Fans hoping for substantial new content may be disappointed, as the miniseries format primarily repackages existing material with added credits. Nonetheless, the release has reignited interest in Tarantino's snowy mystery, which remains a divisive yet celebrated entry in his filmography.
