Underrated Period Drama Hailed As Netflix Masterpiece Returns to BBC

The Narrow Road to the Deep North, the critically acclaimed period drama starring Jacob Elordi and Odessa Young, returns to television tonight (Sunday, 3 August). Based on Richard Flanagan's Booker Prize-winning novel, the Australian miniseries consists of five episodes, all available to stream on BBC iPlayer. BBC One will air episode three at 9:20pm.

The series charts the life of Dorrigo Evans (Elordi) as a young man, with Ciarán Hinds playing the older Dorrigo, through his passionate love affair with Amy Mulvaney (Young), his time held captive in a WW2 POW camp, and his later years as a revered surgeon and reluctant war hero.

Hailed as an "underrated masterpiece" by fans on social media, the series holds a perfect score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics have praised it; The Times called it "terrific and on occasion magnificent," while Slate described it as "gorgeous, ugly, and stirring." The Guardian noted it is "driven by strong performances."
