Arsenal legend Ian Wright has opened up about a long-standing rift with his sister Dionne, also known as Dee, which has lasted over 20 years. The feud, which involves his wife Nancy, came to a head when Dionne married Wright's former Crystal Palace teammate Mark Bright in June this year.
Wright and Bright formed a formidable strike partnership at Selhurst Park between 1986 and 1991 and have remained close friends. Wright has described Bright as a "big brother". However, his relationship with his sister has been fractured for years, with the root cause being an incident where Dionne allegedly blanked Nancy when they first met.
Speaking on the True Geordie podcast, Wright recalled: "Nancy went to introduce herself and she totally blanked her in front of people, saying something about, 'I have to be true to my niece and nephew.'" Wright confronted his sister and told her he would never speak to her again unless she apologised to Nancy. Dionne refused, saying: "I am not apologising to anyone."
The feud was also discussed during Wright's appearance on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! in 2019, where he revealed they had not spoken in 15 years. He expressed his hope that his sister would apologise before her wedding, but it remains unclear if reconciliation has occurred, as Wright was absent from wedding photos shared by Bright.
