Gardening Expert Reveals Free Boiling Water Hack to Kill Patio Weeds Fast

Weeds can quickly ruin the aesthetic of patios and gravel areas, but a gardening expert has shared a free and eco-friendly solution using boiling water from your kettle. Simon Wardle, a patio specialist at Armstrong Cheshire, warns against using white vinegar, as its acid can damage stone surfaces and harm wildlife.

Instead, Wardle recommends pouring boiling water directly onto weeds. 'This targeted method not only means your patio will end up weed-free, but it ensures there's no damage to your patio, or the environment,' he said. Results can be seen in minutes, with full effects within hours.

To apply, fill a kettle with water and bring it to a boil. Carry the sealed kettle to the patio, get as close to the weeds as possible, and carefully pour the water directly onto each weed, thoroughly soaking it. Repeat the process at the first sign of new growth.

The boiling water works by scalding the leaves, which are essential for the weed to gather sunlight. It also penetrates cracks to weaken the taproot. However, Wardle advises against using this method on lawn weeds or near prized garden plants, as the heat can kill them or damage tender growth.
