The search for a two-year-old boy who fell into the River Soar in Leicestershire has entered its fourth day, with rescue teams continuing to trawl the riverbank. The toddler was with his family near Aylestone Meadows on Sunday evening when he fell into the fast-flowing water, which had burst its banks in parts of the nature reserve.
Specialist police divers have been conducting extensive searches despite difficult conditions caused by heavy rainfall. CCTV footage recovered shows the moment the boy fell in. Assistant Chief Constable Michaela Kerr stated that the priority remains to find the child and thanked the public for their support.
A family member who attempted to rescue the boy was taken to hospital and has since been discharged. Police are appealing for a dog walker who was in the area at the time to come forward. Officers from Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, and the Metropolitan Police have provided backup resources.
Sergeant Chris Haines, leading the search operation, confirmed that underwater dive teams are continuing their efforts. The force remains hopeful of finding the boy and is committed to bringing him home.
