An 11-year-old dog named Ralph has spent six years at Oakwood Dog Rescue in Hull after being returned just 12 days following his adoption. Staff say the reason for his return was his nervous behaviour, a consequence of his difficult past in Romania.
Ralph first arrived at the rescue in 2021 as a frightened six-year-old after being brought from shelters in Romania, where stray dogs often face harsh conditions. Despite being adopted shortly after arrival, he was brought back because of his anxiety.
Since then, staff have worked patiently to help Ralph gain confidence. A recent milestone saw him take his first walk on a lead after trying a new harness, which he “absolutely loved.” For his 11th birthday, volunteers took him to a secure dog field where he could run freely and enjoy treats.
Ralph is described as a “lovable, cheeky gentleman” who prefers homes without other pets. Staff hope his story will help him find a forever home where he can receive the time, patience, and love he deserves.
