Woman Dies in Strinesdale Reservoir Tragedy

A woman has died after getting into difficulty in a reservoir in Greater Manchester. Emergency services were called to Strinesdale Reservoir at around 4pm on Sunday following reports of a woman in trouble in the water.

Fire services deployed a specialist water incident unit to the scene. After an intensive search, Greater Manchester Police confirmed that a woman's body was recovered at approximately 6.25pm.

In a statement on Monday, police said: "Emergency services responded to an incident at Strinesdale Reservoir at around 4:50pm yesterday (Sunday 17 August 2025) after reports of a woman getting into difficulty in the water. Sadly, the body of a woman was recovered. There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death."

A cordon was put in place at the scene. Strinesdale Reservoir is a popular beauty spot between Oldham and Delph, known for its reservoirs, woodlands, and meadows. The identity of the victim has not yet been released.
