Former Coronation Street actress Georgia May Foote has called for kindness after receiving negative reactions to her vitiligo. The 33-year-old, who played Katy Armstrong on the ITV soap, shared a photo on Instagram showing the white patches on her hand, which became more noticeable after tanning on holiday.
Foote wrote that the condition sometimes leaves her feeling 'insecure', but the support from loved ones makes her 'heart feel full'. However, she noted that not everyone is accepting, saying: 'I've noticed people staring, having a good old nosey with their faces screwed up, and that's when my heart drops.'
She added: 'So this is just a friendly reminder to those people to be kind. I'm sure the way it makes you feel is nothing in comparison to how the person with it feels.' Foote concluded: 'I'm proud to be a voice for people like me with the condition.'
Vitiligo is caused by a lack of melanin in the skin and has no cure. Foote first revealed her diagnosis in 2022, explaining that she noticed two small white patches two years prior. She has been open about living with the condition and continues to advocate for awareness.
