Concerns are mounting ahead of UFC Freedom 250 as a lightning storm is forecast to strike Washington D.C., potentially forcing fans and fighters to seek shelter during the unprecedented outdoor event. For the first time in UFC history, the event will be held outside, exposing participants to the elements.
Historic Outdoor Event at the White House
Donald Trump is hosting the UFC to commemorate his 80th birthday and the nation's 250th anniversary with a unique White House occasion: a UFC show featuring seven fights inside an eight-sided, wire-mesh cage on the White House South Lawn.
The UFC posted on X: "The gates for UFC Freedom 250 Fan Fest are open as scheduled. We anticipate inclement weather in the area, so attendees should plan accordingly. We will share information when available."
Weather Warnings and Preparations
Associated Press reports that clouds are darkening, but no significant rain has yet fallen at the Ellipse, where a live band continued playing for fans as the broadcast's 8 p.m. start time approached. Earlier, a message on video screens warned of possible bad weather and instructed the crowd to be ready to leave and take shelter.
Trump and Dana White are expected to be present at the event, which combines sports, politics, and celebration amidst uncertain weather conditions.
