Manchester United are making significant progress in the transfer market, with Mateus Fernandes reportedly agreeing personal terms and Tottenham Hotspur emerging as a potential destination for Marcus Rashford.
Fernandes Agrees Personal Terms with United
According to talkSPORT, Mateus Fernandes has agreed personal terms with Manchester United. The Portugal international, 21, is said to be content with the offer from United following West Ham's relegation from the Premier League. This development suggests Fernandes has given the green light to join United, leaving the two clubs to negotiate a transfer fee.
West Ham are reportedly demanding more than £80 million for Fernandes, but United are resistant to matching that valuation. The midfielder joined West Ham from Southampton in a £25 million deal last summer and has two seasons of Premier League experience. New Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho is also thought to be an admirer, though Madrid have already spent heavily this summer.
Tottenham Enter Race for Rashford
Marcus Rashford's future continues to dominate headlines, with Tottenham Hotspur now reportedly interested in the England forward. The i Paper reports that Spurs are keen to reach an agreement for Rashford, who is currently at the World Cup.
Rashford spent a productive loan at Barcelona last season, but the Catalans opted not to trigger their purchase option. Tottenham have already strengthened their defence with deals for Jan Paul van Hecke, Andy Robertson, and Marcos Senesi, but are yet to add to their attack. Injuries to Dejan Kulusevski, Dominic Solanke, Mohammed Kudus, and Xavi Simons have left Spurs short of forward options.
Rashford's current £300,000-a-week wages are a potential stumbling block, though he took a pay cut to join Barcelona last summer. If he is prepared to make further sacrifices, Tottenham could make a move for the 28-year-old.
United's Midfield Reinforcements
Michael Carrick's side are also closing in on a £39 million deal for Ederson, with the Brazilian midfielder expected to be United's first major signing of the summer. The World Cup has complicated transfer progress, but United remain active in the market.
