Tonali Transfer: Tottenham £80m Bid Rejected, Newcastle Hold £100m Stance

Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali is at the centre of a summer transfer battle, with Tottenham Hotspur having an £80 million offer rejected and Manchester City also expressing interest. The Italy international, valued at £100 million by Newcastle, could become one of the most expensive signings of the window.

Tottenham's Bid Rejected, Newcastle Stand Firm

Tottenham emerged as serious contenders last week and were the first to formalise their interest with a bid. The £80 million offer was swiftly rejected by Newcastle, who are holding out for their £100 million valuation of the 26-year-old. However, sources indicate that Newcastle are willing to sell Tonali if that price is met.

Spurs may return with an improved offer, but they have already spent £52 million on Brighton and Netherlands defender Jan Paul van Hecke, who was in the final year of his contract. Additionally, Tottenham secured free transfers for Andy Robertson from Liverpool and Marcos Senesi from Bournemouth, committing sizeable wages.

Manchester City's Interest and Transfer Plans

Manchester City are admirers of Tonali but have not yet made a bid. Their top midfield target remains Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson, for whom they have had two bids rejected, the second totalling £120 million. City view Tonali as an additional option rather than a backup plan, meaning his signing is not dependent on the Anderson pursuit. There is a possibility City could sign both players this summer, which would likely cost upwards of £200 million.

City are aiming to sign at least one midfielder this summer, along with a right back and a winger. The club's transfer strategy remains fluid as they evaluate multiple targets.

Other Interested Clubs

Tonali has previously been linked with Arsenal and Manchester United, while Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have also been mentioned as potential suitors. It remains to be seen whether any other clubs will enter the race, but Newcastle's firm stance on the £100 million price tag could deter some suitors.

As the transfer window progresses, Tonali's future remains uncertain, with Tottenham and Manchester City leading the chase. Newcastle's resolve will be tested, but they are determined to secure a fee that reflects the midfielder's value.
