Charity Shop Hunter Finds £190 Barbie DVDs for £8

A dedicated charity shop enthusiast has stunned online followers by uncovering what he describes as his "greatest charity shop find ever" – a Barbie DVD collection valued at £190, purchased for a mere £8.

The Incredible Discovery in Staffordshire

The man, who goes by the social media handle RK Gaming and boasts a combined following of over 25,000 people, regularly shares his bargain-hunting adventures. In a recent video, he expressed sheer disbelief at his luck while browsing charity shops in Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire.

"I'm still in shock. I cannot believe what I picked up today," he exclaimed in the footage, capturing the moment of discovery.

A Fruitful Visit to the British Heart Foundation

After an unproductive stop at a Cancer Research UK store, his visit to a nearby British Heart Foundation shop proved immensely successful. While scanning through toys and DVDs, he spotted the Barbie complete DVD collection, styled like a pink jewellery case with the iconic Barbie logo on top.

"And there it was, sat right there – the Barbie complete DVD collection," he recounted. The set includes 19 animated movie DVDs and features a mirror inside the lid, all in excellent condition.

"Now I knew it was worth a lot from just looking at it, but I never knew it was worth this much," he added, noting the shop's asking price of just £8.

Substantial Resale Value Confirmed

The bargain hunter, who often resells items for profit, highlighted the collection's significant market value. He mentioned that the same Barbie DVD set recently sold for £160 on eBay, with eBay listings showing it went for up to £167.10 in the past month and even £516.70 last November.

According to the pre-owned retailer CEX's website, the item is priced at £190, though currently out of stock. During the same charity shop trip, he also picked up a Blu-ray of the 1983 action adventure film Krull for £1, which he noted sells for £18 at CEX.

"Total spend in this charity shop: £9," he summarised, emphasising the incredible savings.

Mixed Reactions from the Online Community

Viewers were amazed by the find, with one commenter stating, "Wow just had a look on eBay what a great buy, I never find anything like that." Others shared their own charity shop tips, such as one person who said, "My local charity shop sell all books for £1 – I’ve never bought so many cook books or novels – love a bargain!"

However, not all reactions were positive. Another commenter expressed a different perspective, saying, "Wish people actually enjoyed the things they find instead of just reselling for profit."

The Broader Appeal of Charity Shop Hunting

This incident underscores the potential for remarkable discoveries in charity shops, which are often filled with deals on clothing, toys, furniture, and other items. For enthusiasts like RK Gaming, these venues offer not only personal treasures but also opportunities for lucrative resales.

The story serves as a testament to the thrill of the hunt and the unexpected value that can be found in second-hand stores, inspiring both admiration and debate among bargain hunters and casual shoppers alike.
