Adam Armstrong has committed his future to Newcastle United by signing a new long-term contract. The 17-year-old, who celebrated his birthday yesterday, is seen as a key part of the club's strategy to develop local talent from Tyneside.
Armstrong has been included in the first-team squad for the last three matchdays under manager Alan Pardew, although he is yet to make his senior debut. He has impressed for the reserves and Academy sides, most notably scoring in a 4-0 FA Youth Cup victory over Sunderland.
The England Under-17 international, who hails from the Chapel House estate in West Denton, will be in the squad for tomorrow's home match against Tottenham Hotspur. He is also expected to feature in Sunday's FA Youth Cup tie at Derby County.
Earlier this season, Armstrong described being involved with Newcastle as a "boyhood dream" and expressed his desire to work hard and learn from the experience. He added that he aims to continue scoring goals for his club to earn further international recognition.
