A new flavour of Jammie Dodgers has been spotted on the shelves of B&M, and shoppers are already eager to get their hands on them, exclaiming they 'got to try' the latest offering.
Orange Flavour Jammie Dodgers
Well-known foodie account New Foods UK posted to its Instagram and Facebook pages to share an image of the Orange flavour Jammie Dodgers after spotting them in-store. The post quickly garnered hundreds of likes from customers keen to sample the new variety.
One individual exclaimed: "They look so good!" While another commented: "Oh, this is different. Might have to give these a try." A third remarked: "Bet they're well nice," as one person who had given them a go wrote: "Got these for the kids today. They love them." Another also suggested a food hack, commenting: "Dip the bottom in melted dark chocolate for a Jaffa Cake on steroids."
A History of Jammie Dodgers
Jammie Dodgers have been a fixture since 1960, making them a cornerstone of biscuit tins for more than 60 years. They were originally launched in the 1960s by Burton's Biscuit Company and produced at their plant in Llantarnam, Wales. Most devotees of the biscuit recognise it for its distinctive red filling, and while it has a raspberry taste, the traditional factory formula actually uses a flavoured plum purée base to provide the centre with its characteristically sticky texture.
Nevertheless, alongside the original variety, the brand has launched numerous different versions over the years, including Apple & Blackcurrant, Sour Lemon, Double Chocolate and Mango & Passionfruit.
Pop Culture Moments
Jammie Dodgers are regarded as a truly iconic biscuit, having enjoyed several memorable pop culture moments over the years. In 2009, the beloved treats were included in a care package sent to the International Space Station for British astronaut Tim Peake. On the BBC's Doctor Who, The Eleventh Doctor — portrayed by Matt Smith — famously used a Jammie Dodger to deceive the Daleks into believing he was holding a TARDIS self-destruct button back in 2010.
Having briefly altered their recipe to incorporate dairy, the biscuits returned to their vegan-friendly formula in 2020.
