Newcastle United fans began queuing from 4am on Wednesday outside St James' Park to purchase the club's new 'barcode' home shirt for the 2026/27 season. Despite the early start, supporters described the wait as worthwhile.
Fan Reactions
Linda Glendenning, who waited with her 10-year-old daughter Leilani Glendenning-Carr, expressed her enthusiasm. "We've been at the shop since 4am this morning. It was a long wait but it's been worth it. She absolutely loved it. She couldn't wait to get it and be one of the first to get it," Linda said.
Alex Hall from Spennymoor highlighted the shirt's lack of a sponsor as a key attraction. "The real reason I've got it is because it's not got a sponsor on it. How often do you get one without a sponsor on it?" he remarked.
Tommy Dixon from Jesmond purchased a shirt for his granddaughter with a special dedication to Southampton murder victim Henry Nowak. "I've bought it for my granddaughter. She's been thinking about the young lad who's been stabbed and she wanted his name on the back of her shirt. That's all it's about," Dixon explained.
Kit Details
The new kit went on sale at 8am. As of now, the shirt is sponsorless, leading some fans to believe it may become a collector's item. No launch date has been set for the away and third kits, though rumors suggest the away kit may be dark blue with a white-edged round neck. It remains unclear when a new shirt sponsor will be announced.
Newcastle United could follow Chelsea's example, who began a recent season with a sponsorless kit. The club shop at St James' Park saw long queues as fans eagerly awaited the release.
