A new train service launching between Sweden and Norway will cover 372 miles, offering passengers a scenic journey described as a "window seat guide" to the surrounding natural beauty. The direct route from Malmö, Sweden's third-largest city, to the Norwegian capital Oslo begins on Monday, June 15.

Service Details

The service is operated by Swedish rail company Snälltåget, with one-way tickets starting at £11.70 depending on the time of year. The journey takes six and a half hours and includes a stop in Gothenburg, Sweden's second-largest city after Stockholm.

The route travels along Sweden's west coast and will call at several coastal destinations in both Sweden and Norway, including Lund, Helsingborg, Sarpsborg, and Fredrikstad. There will be one train per day in each direction between Malmö and Oslo.

Departure Times

  • Malmö to Oslo: departs at 6:38 am, arrives at 1:16 pm (except Sundays at 7:05 am)
  • Oslo to Malmö: departs at 2:48 pm, arrives at 9:25 pm

Onboard Amenities

Tickets include two pieces of hand luggage plus one smaller personal item. The trains feature an onboard restaurant called Krogen, where passengers are advised to book a table and pre-order a meal when purchasing their ticket.
