Plane Makes Emergency Landing on Road in Tenerife Holiday Resort

A light aircraft made a dramatic crash landing on a road in the popular holiday resort of Amarilla Golf, Tenerife, on Tuesday afternoon, just yards from tourists' accommodation. The pilot was forced to land after suffering mechanical difficulties while approaching Tenerife South Airport.

The incident occurred at around 5pm local time. The plane came down on side roads near residential and holiday flats, close to a golf course. Emergency services, including the Tenerife Fire Consortium, local police, and medical teams, rushed to the scene.

Both the pilot and co-pilot were unhurt but were taken to hospital for precautionary check-ups. A spokesman for the emergency department said: 'The ambulance crews assessed the two occupants who exited the aircraft on their own and transferred them to a hospital for observation, although they do not appear to have serious injuries.'

Firefighters poured foam over the area to prevent the fuel spilled on the road from igniting. The accident did not affect pedestrians or other vehicles. An investigation is now underway to determine the technical cause of the engine failure.
