A man has been shot dead in broad daylight outside a police building in Barcelona, marking the third shooting in the area in a month. The incident occurred at around 10am local time on Carrer de Balmes, in front of the National Police's DNI office, which issues identity cards and passports. The victim was gunned down before the suspect fled the scene, according to local reports.

Police Investigation Underway

Catalan police are investigating the incident alongside agents from the Criminal Investigation Division (DIC). Authorities have reportedly obtained an image of the suspect and recovered a gun and a bicycle helmet. A law enforcement operation has been launched to track down the perpetrator.

Recent Shootings in the Area

This shooting is the second in Barcelona in just three days. On Sunday night, a man was shot multiple times and killed on the streets of Mineria and Mare de Deu del Port. Emergency services attempted to resuscitate him, but he died from his injuries. Last month, another man was shot in the head and killed on the same street, an incident that remains under investigation.

The latest shooting comes ahead of Pope Leo's visit to Barcelona this afternoon, which has prompted road closures and heightened security. However, authorities do not believe the shooting is linked to the papal visit. The Pope is scheduled to travel in the Popemobile along Rosselló Street from Diagonal Avenue to the Sagrada Família.

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward as they continue their search for the suspect.
