A 61-year-old man has been convicted of stalking the prominent Conservative MP and former Leader of the House of Commons, Penny Mordaunt.
The Harassment Campaign
Southampton Crown Court heard how Edward Brandt engaged in a persistent campaign of harassment against the MP. His actions included repeatedly bombarding Mordaunt with emails and phone calls. The court was told he also jumped a security barrier at her constituency office, behaviour that left Mordaunt feeling profoundly vulnerable and emotionally drained.
Emotional Courtroom Testimony
During the trial, Penny Mordaunt provided emotional testimony, breaking down in tears as she described the significant impact Brandt's stalking had on her daily life. "You're constantly having to think about whether he was going to be in your workplace or on your street," she told the jury, illustrating the relentless anxiety caused by his actions.
Following deliberation, the jury returned a unanimous verdict, finding Edward Brandt guilty of the stalking charge against him.
