A 72-year-old widow from Wrexham has expressed fears of becoming homeless after being served an eviction notice from her privately rented home. Susan Monks claims that Wrexham Council's housing department has not provided her with alternative accommodation despite her vulnerable status.
Eviction Notice and Health Concerns
Mrs Monks has been told to vacate her Falcon Road property by June 25. She suffers from multiple health conditions, including diabetes, asthma, COPD, and heart and spinal problems. She has pleaded with the council for help but says no suitable social housing has been offered.
"I'm 72 and in very poor health," she said. "They keep saying they're looking, but they've not actually come back with any suggestions. They've offered me no support."
Council Response
Councillor Terry Evans, Wrexham Council's lead member for housing, stated that the department provides support to those at risk of homelessness. "It's very difficult for us to comment on individual cases due to legalities," he said. "However, we do provide support and advice to anyone concerned about losing their home."
Mrs Monks has also involved her social worker and mental health team, who have written to the council on her behalf. She fears that without intervention, she will be left with nowhere to go.
