Staff at Homeward Bound Pet Rescue in Las Vegas arrived at their facility near Nevada beach to find two cats left in carriers on a bench outside. A handwritten note on one carrier began with 'I'm sorry,' leading the team to tears as they read it. The shelter is already operating beyond capacity, yet they made room for the pair.
The Heartbreaking Note
The note from the previous owners read: 'I'm sorry I can't take care of my cats anymore. They are both very sewwt, please be patient they are scared. They are 5-years-old. I have had them since they were babies. I am so sorry.'
Rescue Centre's Response
The rescue centre stated: 'We don't even have the words right now. Two cats. Left outside our door. In carriers. With a note. Our team found them, and honestly... there were tears. Not because we're angry. Not because we don't care. Because we do care. Every single time. For the cats sitting there, confused and wondering why their world just changed. For the people behind the note, who were clearly facing something difficult. And because the reality is that our shelter is already overflowing.'
'Yet somehow, we will make room. We always try. Tonight, these cats are safe. They have food, water, shelter, and people who will care for them. But situations like this are happening far too often, and every unexpected arrival stretches our resources even further.'
Public Reaction
Followers responded with support. One wrote: 'This is heartbreaking for everyone. Thank you for taking them in and thank you (and sorry) to their humans. Thank you for trying and sorry for what you are going through. We all hope you are okay. Rest assured your furbabies are in good hands.' Another commented: 'That's horrible! What kind of person does that to a pet!'
