Stephen Ogilvie, the victim of a horrific stabbing in Belfast, was previously drugged and set on fire by an Ulster gang leader at a flat in Livingston in 2001. The 44-year-old, who has links to Scotland, was attacked by David McLeave while watching television. McLeave, then 21, gave Ogilvie the date rape drug GHB, stripped him, poured aftershave over him, and set him alight. The ordeal was captured on video by his torturers. Ogilvie, who has learning difficulties, woke up to find his body on fire and later fled back to Belfast.
Previous Attack and Sentencing
McLeave was sentenced to 14 years in prison at the High Court in Edinburgh in April 2003. Accomplices Paul Campbell, Thomas Irvine, Edward Lindsay, and Lee Kingham were jailed on drug charges. After returning to Belfast, Ogilvie testified that he feared for his life after being abducted by McLeave's associates, Barry and Paul Campbell. Barry Campbell was jailed for six years for abduction and firearm possession. Ogilvie told the court: 'I am terrified and my nerves are shattered.'
Recent Stabbing Incident
Ogilvie is currently hospitalized with severe injuries after a knife attack on Belfast's Kinnaird Avenue on Monday night. He lost one eye and remains in serious condition. Hadi Alodid, 30, a Sudanese national, has been charged with attempted murder and threats to kill an NHS radiographer. He appeared at Belfast Magistrates' Court, refused legal representation, and made no reply through an Arabic interpreter. Alodid, of Duncairn Avenue, was remanded in custody. Police confirmed Alodid crossed into Northern Ireland via the Irish border in February 2023, lodged an asylum claim, and was granted leave to remain until 2028. The attack is not believed to be terrorism-related.
Ogilvie's family, via Independent Councillor Stafford Ward, said: 'We are completely devastated by the horrific attack on our loved one. Our only priority is being at his bedside and helping him recover.'
