Brian Kiprop Kipglagat, the boyfriend of Citibank vice president Marianne Kilonzi who was found bludgeoned to death at her London flat, has been arrested after more than a year on the run. Immigration officers detained Kipglagat on June 10 as he attempted to travel to Tanzania, according to Metropolitan Police sources.
Victim Identified as Senior Banker
Marianne Kilonzi, 43, served as vice president of trade and working capital sales at Citibank. She was discovered dead in her home in Woolwich, south-east London, in January 2025. Police confirmed she had suffered severe blunt-force trauma to the head, and a murder investigation was launched immediately.
Kipglagat had been wanted by police since the discovery of Kilonzi's body. He was believed to have fled the UK shortly after the killing. Authorities issued a warrant for his arrest and worked with immigration officials to track his movements.
Arrest Details
The arrest occurred at a UK border checkpoint as Kipglagat attempted to board a flight to Tanzania. Immigration officers recognized him from a wanted list and took him into custody without incident. He is now being held at a London police station and is expected to be charged with murder.
Detective Inspector Sarah Thompson of the Metropolitan Police said: "This arrest marks a significant breakthrough in a case that has deeply affected the local community. Our thoughts remain with Marianne's family and friends."
Investigation and Background
Police have not disclosed the motive for the killing, but sources indicate that Kipglagat was a person of interest from the outset. Neighbors reported hearing a disturbance at Kilonzi's flat on the night of her death, but no arrests were made at the time.
Kilonzi had worked at Citibank for over a decade and was described by colleagues as a dedicated professional. Her family has been informed of the arrest and have requested privacy.
This is a breaking news story. Further details are expected to emerge as the legal process unfolds.
