Police Cordon in Jarrow After Crash, One in Hospital

A police cordon remains in place on Ellison Street in Jarrow following a serious collision early on Monday 22 June 2026. Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 5:30am. One person has been taken to hospital for treatment.

Emergency Response

The North East Ambulance Service confirmed that they dispatched one ambulance crew, one rapid response paramedic, and one clinical team leader, supported by the Great North Air Ambulance Service. A spokesperson said: "We were called to a road traffic incident on Ellison Street in Jarrow at 5:39am on Monday 22 June. One patient was taken to hospital by road for further treatment."

The Great North Air Ambulance Service also attended. A spokesperson stated: "Our critical care team was activated at 5.40am to reports of a road traffic collision in Jarrow. We had a paramedic and doctor in a rapid response vehicle and they arrived on scene at 5.55am. Our team worked alongside the North East Ambulance Service to assess and treat a patient, and accompanied them to hospital."

Road Closure and Local Impact

Ellison Street has been closed in both directions between Western Road and the A185. Local businesses have been affected. Grange Road Dental Practice said: "We are unable to gain access to the practice this morning due to a police presence. All appointments this morning are cancelled and we will update when we can." The Ben Lomand pub also announced on Facebook: "Sorry we are closed. We will be closed until later on this afternoon, will update when we are able to open."
