A serious collision involving a car and a truck on the A1 in Northumberland has led to the road being closed in both directions, with emergency services remaining on the scene. The crash occurred between the A697 turn-off near Morpeth and Acklington shortly after 4pm on Monday, 22 June 2026.

Northumbria Police and the North East Ambulance Service were called to the incident, which took place on the southbound carriageway near Causey Park. A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "Shortly after 4pm today (Monday), we received a report of a two-vehicle collision involving a car and a truck on the A1 southbound, near to Causey Park in Northumberland. Emergency services are currently in attendance at the scene where a section of the road is closed. Motorists are advised to follow local diversions and seek an alternative route where possible. Enquiries are ongoing."
Ambulance service details
The North East Ambulance Service confirmed they dispatched two ambulances and one clinical team leader to the scene. A spokesperson added: "We were called to a road traffic incident on the A1 near Causey Park in Morpeth, Northumberland at 16:06 on Monday 22 June. The incident is ongoing."
Traffic impact and overnight closure
Traffic congestion has been reported stretching towards Northumberland Zoo to the north, with the adjacent A697 also affected. National Highways issued an update stating: "The A1 is closed both ways between the A697 at Morpeth and the Causey Park junction, due to a serious two vehicle traffic collision. Northumbria Police are leading the response to this incident. The road is expected to remain closed throughout the evening, with delays of under 10 minutes on the approach, and one mile of congestion."
