The BBC has released a teaser clip and fresh artwork for the second series of the award-winning comedy show Funboys. The programme, produced by Mayhay Studios, is the creation of BAFTA-winning producer Simon Mayhew-Archer, known for This Country and Can You Keep A Secret?.
Series Details and Cast
The second series will consist of four half-hour episodes, airing on BBC Three, BBC Northern Ireland, and BBC iPlayer, with support from Northern Ireland Screen. Returning cast members include Ryan Dylan, Rian Lennon, Lee R James, and Ele McKenzie, while comedy legend Steve Coogan joins as a guest star. Brian Devlin, Owen Colgan, Paul Bazely, and Richard Croxford also reprise their roles, with new additions Nicky Harley, Saorlaoith Brady, Lalor Roddy, Donal O'Hanlon, and Amanda Doherty.
Series two reunites audiences with the Ballymacnoose gang as they try to move forward after the events of the previous series. Callum sports a new hairstyle, Gemma and Lorcan's romance blossoms, and Jordan has avoided major meltdowns for months. However, peace is short-lived as the friends become entangled with the legacy of the Irish Potato Famine, leading to increasingly absurd situations involving social friction, personal anxieties, and robot-fighting tournaments.
Spin-off Show Fair Game
The BBC has also confirmed a companion spin-off titled Fair Game, created by the same team. This gaming review series follows Jordan, Callum, Lorcan, and Gemma as they review the latest releases and debate hot topics in gaming. Special guest Roger Craig Smith, the voice behind characters in Sonic the Hedgehog, Assassin's Creed, and Resident Evil, adds to the entertainment.
Steve Coogan praised the cast, saying: "I loved working with them. They are an original voice in comedy and they have bright futures ahead of them. Properly funny fellas. Rian's direction was clear and confident, always on the money."
Funboys series one is currently available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
